About Us

Beliefs

Founded in 1953, our parish’s purpose is: “living to proclaim Jesus Christ with everything we are.”

Our parish comes out of the Stone-Campbell tradition (often called the Restoration Movement), an American Protestant Christian movement that arose during the early 19th-century Second Great Awakening, aiming to unify all Christians by moving past denominational creeds and restoring the beliefs and practices of the New Testament church.

All Are Welcome

Whether a person is a long-time follower of Jesus, or has never stepped foot inside a parsih, all are welcome to participate in the life of our congregation, including the Lord’s Supper.  We respect people’s freedom of belief, and at the same time we uphold an orthodox Christian faith, as discovered in the Bible, and proclaimed by the founders of the Stone-Campbell movement.

BELIEFS THAT UNITE US

Jesus Christ is the Son of God who became flesh through His miraculous conception of the Holy Spirit and birth from a virgin. He lived a sin-free life and willingly accepted his death on a cross to pay the price for the sin of the world. After three days in a grave, Jesus bodily rose to life, had interaction with many witnesses before He ascended into heaven, and now is with God the Father in heaven. Jesus is the only Savior and mediator between God and humans, and apart from Him there is no salvation. Jesus will return to earth one day, judge all people to either everlasting life or destruction, and usher in a new heaven and new earth.

Salvation is by God’s grace through faith in Jesus Christ. It is not by works, and it is found in no one else. A response to God’s grace and gift of salvation includes repentance and baptism by immersion in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit.
The Bible – composed of the Old and New Testaments – is the inspired, infallible Word of God, complete as the revelation of God’s will for salvation, and the supreme and final authority in faith and life. Scripture in its entirety originated with God and was given through the pens of chosen individuals. Therefore, scripture both speaks with the authority of God and reflects the background, styles, and vocabularies of the human authors.

The command of Christ to the church is to proclaim the gospel throughout the world, seeking unity in Him and making disciples of all people, by baptizing them and teaching them to obey His commandments.

God bless you. We hope to see you soon!

What To Expect

Learn more about worship practices

Our worship services take place primarily on Sunday mornings at 9:00 am and 11:00 am, lasting a bit over an hour each. When you walk through the doors, you will be greeted by a friendly Welcome Center volunteer, and quite likely others who will come and say hello.

Our Music Team begins playing about 10 minutes, before a Call to Worship that signals worship’s start. The music is mixed, including traditional, contemporary, gospel, and more. And you won’t need to bring your earplugs.

Soon after the start of worship, we celebrate the Lord’s Supper, and as we often say, “whoever you are, wherever you are in your journey of faith, you are welcome at Christ’s table.”

After the Lord’s Supper, children and youth are dismissed to their various Sunday School classes for their lessons and activities. They are not required to go – they may want to sit with you – but most really enjoy that time with good friends and wonderful teachers.

The preaching is Bible-based. Typically we work our way through one of the books of the Bible.

In between worship services is a hospitality time with food and coffee, and it is the place where people from each service can gather together.

Feel free to dress up if you would like, but most of the people come in casual dress.

Dave Hedgepeth

Pastor

Pastor Dave Hedgepeth received his call to full-time ministry in eighth grade, but God had to do a lot of work on him before he really claimed that call.

Meet Our Pastor

Dave and his parents lived in El Paso, Texas, at that time. They went to a Lutheran church, and loved the pastor, the youth group, and many other aspects, but also experienced the pain of a church split.

When Dave went to Texas Christian University in 1985, he majored in Religion-Studies, but didn’t go to church very much – in fact, despite his confirmation in the Lutheran church and his call to ministry, he shortly found that he was agnostic at best. His faith was changing and growing, however, and between 1989 and 1993, he (1) studied at Vanderbilt Divinity School, graduation in 1993 with an Master of Divinity degree, (2) joined Vine Street Christian Church, a Disciples of Christ church and an amazing place of growth for him, (3) had a life changing experience at a Disciples of Christ students conference, where he was renewed and which ultimately led to a faith rooted in an evangelical understanding of Jesus and the Bible, and (4) got involved in various non-profit agencies, including some eye-opening experiences with the YWCA Domestic Violence Shelter, Room in the Inn (a ministry with homeless people), and a peace organization called Sane/Freeze.

The volunteer work with Sane/Freeze led to his first full time job, as the Program Director of what became Nashville Peace Action. Dave didn’t start that job until the summer after his work in the Grand Teton National Park with an organization called “A Christian Ministry in the National Parks,” in which he waited tables at a restaurant during the week, and led worship outdoors with park visitors on Sunday mornings.

AV Team

Go therefore and make disciples of all nations. (Matthew 28:19)

In an increasingly digital world, our Audio Visual (AV) Team is vital for sharing the good news with everyone.  Beyond our Sunday services, this team works to capture and broadcast our sermons and events through live-streaming and recorded media.  This allows those who are sick, homebound, or otherwise unable to attend in person to remain connected to our church family and the gospel message.  We even have had people overseas participating with us through this media.

Do you have a passion for technology and a heart for service?
Our AV Team plays a crucial role in bringing our worship services to life each week.
No prior experience is necessary—just a willingness to learn and a desire to serve. If you’re interested, please reach out to Geri to learn more.

Children's Ministry

“Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of God belongs to such as these. Truly I tell you, anyone who will not receive the kingdom of God like a little child will never enter it.” (Mark 10:14-15)

Our Children’s Ministry provides a safe, joyful space for kids.  We have childcare on Sundays for our youngest attendees at our 9:00 am worship.  Then at our 11:00 am worship – after all of us have gathered in worship and participated in the Lord’s Supper (communion), we have one class for preschoolers & kindergartners, and one for young people in 1st-5th grades.  These classes include curriculum and activities so that they can grow in faith, make friends, and discover God’s love. Through interactive Bible lessons, engaging crafts, and meaningful playtime, we make learning about Jesus fun and exciting for every child.

hospitality

Hospitality Team

Do not neglect to show hospitality to strangers, for thereby some have entertained angels unawares.  (Hebrews 13:2)

Our church’s Hospitality Team does an amazing job, week in and week out, of providing a time in between worship services (approximately 10:00-10:45 am) for food and fellowship, in a way that welcomes all to join in.  Our Hospitality Team creates a warm, welcoming environment where everyone who walks through our doors feels at home and valued.  This ministry ensures that newcomers and long-time members alike feel a sense of belonging in our family.

If you are interested in joining the Hospitality Team, or simply providing a food dish from time to time, contact Joan.

Youth Group

Don’t let anyone look down on you because you are young, but set an example for the believers in speech, in conduct, in love, in faith and in purity. (1 Timothy 4:12)

Our Youth Group is a welcoming space for middle and high schoolers to connect, explore their faith, serve others, and have a blast.  From Sunday morning studies to special events, including a summer camp or mission experience, we create an environment where teens feel seen, valued, and empowered to live out their faith boldly.  Our ministry focuses on helping teenagers develop a deep, lasting relationship with Jesus Christ, and become lifelong disciples who honor God and spread His love in their schools and neighborhoods.
Our youth gather for weekly classes on Sundays at the 11am worship service (though on the third Sundays of the month they remain in worship).
